POETRY

"During difficult times, poetry can let you know that others have been through and made sense of a similar experience. By writing poetry, you can give voice to your own unique experience." Dr. Andrew Weil.
If you have a poem, perhaps one that you have written, that expresses aspects of grief or healing, please share it by responding to this post. Please include your first name and the city/state where you live. Thank you for contributing.

  • "What is this thing that men call death, This quiet passing in the night? 'Tis not the end, but genesis, Of better worlds and greater light. O God, touch Thou my aching heart, And calm my troubled, haunting fears. Let hope and faith, transcendent, pure, Give strength and peace beyond my tears. There is no death, but only change, With recompense for victory won; The gift of Him who loved all men, The son of God, the Holy One." Gordon B. Hinckley
  • alone in the darkness my heart/ beats out its painful cry/ miss you/ miss you/ miss you

this would be a great tool to help people get to know each other and share their thoughts and feelings.
i have learned through this experience that no one can possibly know what you are going through unless they have gone through it or are going through it... that is true for any circumstance in life.
so, i have found comfort in talking to and hearing from other widows and widowers.
i will check in here often.
thank you.
